Jamison High School Tasmania Trip Day Seven

4th October 2007

Port Arthur

group_tour.jpg
After another lovely compliment about the students' behaviour at breakfast, it was off to Port Arthur.
commandants_house.jpg
Who would think that such a frightening place at night could be so beautiful in the day light.
church.jpg
The church was huge.
assylum.jpg
The assylum was bigger(right next door to the separate prisoners' jail). A lot of people went crazy at this place.
penitentiary.jpg
The jail was massive.
Harbour Cruise
Such a beautiful place that was the scene of so much hardship. Makes you realise how easy our lives are.
Return to Sydney
A hard flight for those of us still stuffed up. Hope everyone is feeling better now. Our sincere thanks to Bernerd, Lynn and Alan for making this trip such a wonderful and happy experience. Well done Jamison High students for representing our school in such a positive manner and many thanks to Mr Brett Pyemont for organising this fantastic trip for all of us!

The Hazards and Wineglass Bay

hazards_walk.jpg
This beautiful view was admired by all members of our trip. We were very proud of the group for making the arduous trek up to the lookout!
group_wineglass_beach.jpg
Intrepid travellers made the journey down the other side of the mountain and onto the white pebbly beach.

Looking back, what a great memory.

Port Arthur Ghost Tour

This tour was conducted in near total darkness with only the guide's torch and three candle lanterns. The students born with creative and vivid imaginations were transported back by car to the safety of the the main foyer whilst the remainder of the group completed the tour as a tightly knit bunch. Two students taken for checkups at the nearest available hospital, both students given the all clear! Thanks to Bernerd for the extra bus duty. What an exciting night, but sooo tired, all seemed to sleep well and strangely enough no-one needed to use the bathroom during the night.

Jamison High School Tasmania Trip Day Five

2nd October 2007

Cradle Mountain
See we told you it was snowing. Is this beautiful or what?

group_cradle_mt_4.jpg

Most students and teachers chose to walk around Dove Lake. Those of us suffering from the dreaded lergy stayed in the warmth of the visitors centre after viewing this outstanding landscape.

We then travelled to Freycinet by which time most of the sickies were feeling a great deal better. The weather is finer, warming up and we have mobile phone reception for the first time since leaving Hobart! (much cheering and excitement in the bus).

Only one Doctor's visit so far and that was a teacher!

Jamison High School Tasmania Trip Day Four

Ist October 2007

World Heritage Cruise
Another cold day in Strahan, but it wasn't raining while we boarded, Yipee! A lovely lunch of salads and cold meats including Tasmanian smoked salmon.

group_boat.jpg

Hell's Gate
The water and wind were very rough and we imagine this was an extremely scarey place for the convicts that had been transported to Sarah Island.

hells_gate.jpg

No takers for a career as a salmon farmer, it looks too cold and miserable.

Sarah Island
Richard Davey was an amazing guide, it felt like we had been transported back in time. Students all happy they had never had the privilege of living on this Island. It started to pour when we were the furthest we could be from the boat.

Gordon River
Another beautiful rainforest walk. You stroll on boardwalks as you would sink if you tried walking on the ground. What is it about rainforests that makes them so green? Perhaps it is the continuous rain!!!!!!!

gordon_river_walk.jpg

A very interesting trip, we jump on the bus, driven by our great driver Bernerd and travel to Cradle Mountain. it isn't raining, it's snowing as we leave the bus, what an adventure!

Jamison High School Tasmania Trip Day Three

30th September 2007

-17 °C

Nelson Falls
An early departure from Hobart with the first stop at this beautiful waterfall, well worth the wet walk! (only started raining after we had commenced our walk)

Queenstown
This moonscape, as it is known, is gradually being revegetated. It looks much better than it did 5 years ago.

queenstown.jpg

Lucky these happy girls brightened up the local drab colour scheme.

Wilderness Railway
Fantastic experience! It was like travelling back in time. All aboard the steam train and then a stop along the way and a change to a more modern diesel engine. (same old, but beautiful wooden dog carriages)

Arriving at Strahan as our final destination in the pouring rain. How does the weather know? Thank goodness Lynn and Alan warm us up with another great meal.
